Reflections on My Time at the University of Alabama

It’s crazy to think that 20 years ago I was a paralegal student at University of Alabama. I graduated from the school with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2009. So many good memories pop up in my head from my time there. I enrolled because I wanted to know more about how the law works and how I could help people with it. My program gave me a lot of knowledge about legal professions. When I started, I was super excited to learn and ready to put in the hard work.

Initially, I focused on learning as much as I could. I studied legal research, writing, and case management. The classes, professors, and discussions formed how I think about legal work. Some days required long hours of reading, but the effort helped me build the skills I needed.

My Favourite Classes

I had a few memorable classes in my program. Legal research and writing taught me how to examine case law and find the key points. Civil procedure classes explained how cases move through the court system from beginning to end.

I did a lot of reading, writing, and editing. These activities taught me patience and accuracy. I learned that the small details matter in legal work. A small error in a case brief can change the whole meaning of an argument. These lessons became part of how I handled tasks throughout my studies.

Working With Classmates and Teachers

Classmates made school fun. We studied in groups and leaned on each other for support. Professors shared realistic examples and helped us learn about legal problems. They encourage us to break problems into small steps and think about one at a time. They helped me understand how legal work functions in everyday situations.

Getting Hands On Experience

Whenever there was an opportunity for me to gain hands-on experience, I took it. I worked on mock case files, organized documents, and prepared client correspondence. These tasks made me feel more confident and skilled in the field. I liked handling the details that support attorneys and keep legal work running efficiently.

Lessons I Learned

The skills I gained while in university changed how I do my work now. Attention to detail, logical thinking, and a good work ethic became part of my routine. The people I met, including professors, classmates, and mentors, helped me grow and encouraged me to keep getting better in my field.

Reflecting On My Path

My time as a student the University of Alabama gave me a great start to my paralegal career. I gained knowledge, practical skills, and confidence that I bring with me to my work every day. The lessons I learned there guide me as I help clients and manage legal tasks. I also developed better thinking skills and organizational skills. Those early experiences still impact how I handle new challenges and responsibilities.
